| I first became interested in woodcut prints as a student at the University of Wisconsin in 1971 when I was introduced to Japanese Ukiyo-e prints. Their elegant compositions and intricate surface textures inspired me to explore the medium’s many possibilities for design. |

McCafferty Rudd Studio
...
|
| Tom Rudd and Margo McCafferty make art in a small town in the mountains along the Allegheny River in Pennsylvania. They live in an old church which they have converted into studio and dwelling space. A sculptor and a painter respectively, Tom and Margo create work informed by their wooded surroundings with frequent reference to the omnipresent environmental crisis, especially as it relates to the quality of water.
Besides their individual works, the two artists have found collaboration rewarding. They work together to create color reduction relief prints, a process which makes use of each of their areas of expertise (Tom's carving, Margo's drawing). The resulting prints have been exhibited nationallyand collected internationally.
